So much for recovering well
Well that sucked. After I posted here a few days ago, I woke up Thursday feeling like crap: severe pain, cranky, fever, bloating. Went to see my doctor and she sent my ass to the hospital on suspicion of sepsis (infection).
Very scarey. No food or liquids all day Thursday. Blood work, CT Scans, x-rays of everything, more blood work, IV antibiotics, more blood work to complete the series. The insides of my elbows make me look like a heroine addict. I thought I was dying. Seriously. I was scared to fall asleep. What if the cancer was worse than they thought and it was spreading? I was driving myself insane.
Oh, and did I tell you that they took my vitals EVERY 4 hours, meaning they wake you up in the middle of the night to do so after you've FINALLY fallen asleep and gotten 30 minutes of sleep? Oh, and then the lab tech wakes everyone up at 2am to get blood work for the docs who make their rounds at FIVE A.M.!!!! So the docs are also waking everyone up early! Who are these freaks that are wide awake working at 5 am?
Friday: liquid diet. Jello sucks. I'm not used to food coloring and preservatives. Juice was okay at best. I REFUSED to drink anything that wasn't 100% limiting me to grape and orange. By Friday night I was planning my escape as I was feeling better and the lack of eating was driving me insane. This was NOT healthy....no protein....no essential fats. Man can not live by fructose and 5% glucose IV solution alone. And Saturday at FIVE A.M. I told the doc so. And he looked at me like he knew I was right. And then asked, "Why aren't you eating?" "Because no one gave the order that I COULD eat!!!" So he corrected that and I got solid "food" for breakfast. The use of the word "food" is questionable. But he said that I could probably go home after lunch.
Everything looked good except the blood work. Definitely a BAD infection. Uterine infection after surgery, maybe some minor endometriosis (great! what next?), and my kidneys didn't recover too well after the surgery's general anesthesia and caught infection from lack of circulation.
So I'm home with three different MAJOR antibiotics, including large quantities of Cipro. I'm paranoid about getting sick again now. I need to tone down my intake of protein because the kidneys are taxed by the breakdown of protein. Healthy foods, juices, etc etc etc.....
I think I'm going to give up coffee.
:-(

If you aren't dead when you go into a hospital, they will try to make sure of it before you leave.

Hey Nicole, so sorry to hear what you have been going through - I hope you gave the docs hell for having you up at that time of the morning! :)
Big hugs and best wishes for getting better asap and getting back to your butt-kicking, name-taking self.
