Movie Review: World Trade Center
I went to a private screening of the new movie "World Trade Center" starring Nicholas Cage. Excellant movie. VERY well done. Non-political.
It focuses on the plight of two Port Authority cops trapped in the collapse of the Twin Towers, the efforts to rescue them, their families' emotional terror of waiting, the dire need of all the rescue workers to step up, and the bravery and heroism of one Staff Sgt. David W. Karnes, USMC.
God Bless the United States Marine Corps.
There is very little I can say without giving it all away. So I will leave you with this: it is not full of gore and blood, though there is some. The acting is so brilliant because the actors had to convey deep gut wrenching emotion more than words, and it was transcending. Time seems to move in slow motion just like we all said when witnessing the attack on 9/11, "that it was like watching a movie in slow motion". And Oliver Stone conveys the urgency that you so much want to run into the Towers and get everyone out. There were moments, especially in the beginning, where my stomach was in knots and the whole theater audience was sniffling and reaching for the Kleenex. But just as the two cops are helping each other get through their situation, you become a part of their mission to stay alive and their coping mechanisms of humor and memories of their wives and children help get the audience through the movie.
The set design is so real that I can not imagine how they managed to recreate Ground Zero with such accurate detail. Having seen parts of it myself from afar and all the TV and photo coverage, the artists and sculpters and computer graphic artists are just so amazingly talented.
I felt like I was there. It is indeed a vivid flashback for all those who were there, and all those who helped in the rescue and recovery efforts afterward. But it was good to revisit that horrible day and remember all the good that came out of it, to give meaning to the anger we must manifest and maintain in order to NEVER FORGET, to avenge the deaths of 2,976 people, and to continue are resolve to hunt down those responsible and those who would do it again.
